Known as “The Grinder,” Michael Mizrachi earned his nickname for his never-give-up mentality, a mindset that has earned him just about every major title in poker. He holds 19 titles, including the 2006 CardPlayer Magazine Player of the Year Award, two World Poker Tour (WPT) trophies and a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet. The Grinder is a distinguished and successful poker player, with over $7.2 million in tournament winnings to date. In January 2005, The Grinder placed 5th at the Season III WPT Jack Binion World Poker Open, a final table that featured some of the best players that poker has to offer, including Team China’s Chau Giang, Team Vietnam’s Scotty Nguyen $1,406,000 and Daniel Negreanu. Several weeks later, The Grinder took down the L.A. Poker Classic WPT Main Event at Commerce Casino and earned his first WPT title. In Season IV of the WPT, Michael won his second title at the Borgata Poker Classic and made a second final table appearance in the Jack Binion World Poker Open, placing second. To date, Mizrachi has cashed 11 times at WPT events earning over $4.2 million and is currently ranked 4th on the WPT All Time Money List. The Grinder also boasts an impressive WSOP record. Since his first WSOP in 2004, The Grinder has cashed multiple times nearly every year thereafter. At the 2005 World Series of Poker, Michael tied a record with seven finishes in the money. Mizrachi now has 23 cashes to his name, seven final table appearances, and one win. His career WSOP earnings now total $2,271,327 (not including his potential winnings for the 2010 Main Event). Additionally, The Grinder has final tabled in five out of six WSOP Circuit cashes adding another $323,258 to his gross WSOP earnings. Should The Grinder take down the 2010 WSOP Main Event Championship this November, he will not only win the most coveted WSOP bracelet of then all, but also earn the title of 2010 WSOP Player of the year. Wherever The Grinder’s career goes from here, you can bet his family will be right there beside him. Born January 5, 1981 in North Miami Beach, Florida to Ezra Mizrachi (a Jewish Iraqi immigrant) and Susan Laufer (aka Mama Grinder), Michael Mizrachi grew up playing poker with his fraternal twin brother Eric, his older brother Robert and his youngest brother Daniel (aka Donny). Proud of their Babylonian heritage, all four Mizrachi boys speak fluent Hebrew. Michael’s wife Aidiliy (who goes by Lily or “Mrs, Grinder”) is also an avid poker player. One of her big accomplishments was finishing second place in the WPT Ladies Night event. Together, Michael and Lily have a son, Paul William (named after his grandfather) and a daughter named Julie Malka (“queen” in Hebrew). The Grinder family currently lives in Florida, and is a tight-knit bunch. The Mizrachis keep a kosher home and observe Jewish holidays when they don’t conflict with important poker tournaments.
