  • Gavin Smith’s open and talkative presence at the poker table makes him one of the most easily recognizable players on the tournament circuit.  That, and his aggressive play and instincts leaves other players on edge.  
    
    Gavin first started playing poker in 1994 and turned pro in 1998.  His first major tournament win came in the 1999 World Poker Finals, when Gavin won a No-Limit Hold 'em tournament. The next year at Foxwoods, he won a 7-Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or Better tournament. 
    
    In 2005, Gavin won two no-limit hold'em events at the Mirage Poker Showdown, including the million-dollar first prize of the World Poker Tour championship event.  Gavin continued his run that year by cashing in four Ultimate Poker Challenge tournaments and four World Series of Poker tournaments, as well as finishing third at the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship.
    
    In 2006, Gavin placed second in the WSOP Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans and won the World Pro-Am Challenge in Las Vegas.  In May 2006, Gavin was named WPT "Player of the Year."
    
    In 2008, Gavin finished second in the WPT North American Poker Championships in Ontario, taking home over $500,000. 
    
    Gavin won his first WSOP bracelet in June, 2010. His victory came in Event #44, a Mixed Hold’em tournament for the first prize of $268,238.
