Team Vietnam will join Team USA, Team China, Team Israel, Team England, Team Australia, Team Brazil, and Team Greece in competition at the May 19, 2010 WTP Inaugural event in Las Vegas. Lead by Team Captain Men “The Master” Nguyen, Team Vietnam is sure to bring excitement to the event.

The one day filmed-for-television event will be a five table shoot out format consisting of rounds of Limit Hold’Em, Pot Limit Omaha and No Limit Hold’Em. Competing for Team Vietnam will be Scotty Nguyen, Van Nguyen, Tim Phan, Kenny Tran, Karina Jett, John Phan and David Pham.

THE CAPTAIN

Team Captain Men “The Master” Nguyen holds six (6) World Series of Poker (“WSOP”) Bracelets and reported tournament winnings in excess of 9.3 million dollars. A perfect leader for Team Vietnam, Nguyen is well known for tutoring a stable of up-and-coming Vietnamese players in the Los Angeles poker scene. A practicing Buddhist who incorporates elements of his philosophies into both his poker playing and teaching, The Master has a reputation for being one of the very best poker coaches in the industry will be put to the test on May 19th.

THE TEAM

Scotty Nguyen is arguably one of the best mixed-game poker players on the planet. With a total of five (5) WSOP to his credit, including two diamond encrusted bracelets for the 1998 WSOP $10,000 Main Event World Championship and 2008 WSOP $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship, Scotty Nguyen is one of the most televised players in professional poker today. A vivacious character to have at the table, Scotty Nguyen is gonna do what he can to make sure Team Vietnam wins it, baby!

Van Nguyen’s, familiarity with the Team Captain’s style and tournament strategy will surely be an asset to the team is an exceptional poker player, having several tournament cashes to her credit, including a World Series of Poker money finish in 2007 and including a 2008 World Poker Tour (“WPT”) Invitational title. The other lady on the team, Karina Jett has a natural ability as a poker player. Like mother, like daughter, Karina started her professional career playing Seven-Card Stud, but soon picked up No-Limit Hold 'em as the game became more popular. Karina is a successful cash game player and, like Mrs. Master, she is married to a successful poker player. Karina and her husband Chip Jett became the first husband and wife to make the final table in a major tournament.

Kenny Tran is one of the best cash game players in the world and with over $2 million in tournament cashes, Kenny is also one of the best tournament players out there. Born out of the Los Angeles poker arena, Tran has a fearless attitude and an aggressive style of play. The 2008 WSOP Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em champion is expected to thrive the WTP shootout structure. Another aggressive player out of Los Angeles, John “The Razor” Phan is an equally amazing poker player. Able to seamlessly transition between ring games and tournament play, The Razor has two WSOP bracelets and a WPT title. Both Kenny Tran and Jon Pham are consistent winners who maintain fairly low profiles and are well respected by other high-profile players around the world.
